15 cinemas in the Borough had been carried out, and evidence
obtained that ventilating appliances were not regularly used in
cold weather. Requirements had been made by the County Council
to remedy these conditions of unsatisfactory ventilation. It was
further stated that the walls of cinemas are wet-cleaned and a high
standard of cleanliness maintained.
Isolation Shelter.
During the year 278 persons were admitted to the shelter while
their homes were being disinfected. This total consisted of 73 men,
76 women, and 129 children. The cost of maintenance of these
persons was £32 8s. 9d.
Cleansing of Persons Act, 1897.
The facilities provided by the Borough Council under the above
Act for the cleansing of verminous persons were in constant use.
The total number of baths given during the year was 1,322 (337 to
adults and 985 to children), whilst 2,781 head cleansings not
necessitating bathing were carried out. The total number of
cleansings or treatments at the Cleansing Station during the year
was, therefore, 4,103, or 61 more than in the previous year.
Of the 1,322 baths given, 1,235 were sulphur baths for scabies
and 87 hot baths for pediculi. The great majority of the persons
presenting themselves for baths or cleansing were children from
the elementary schools in the Borough.
