At the close of 1931 there were 1,216 cases of Pulmonary
Tuberculosis and 507 cases of Non-Pulmonary Tuberculosis on the
register.
The Hackney Borough Council Act, 1926, has rendered it
possible to effect considerable improvement in the home surroundings
of careless infectious persons by reference to the powers of removal
contained in that Act. Five patients received residential institutional
treatment during the year in cases where improvement of
home conditions was not possible.
Housing and Sanitary Inspection.
During the past year the detailed work of sanitary inspection
has been carefully and conscientiously carried out. Practically all
the time of the house-to-house inspectors has been spent in the
work required by the clearance schemes and obtaining evidence that
is required by the Ministry of Health for enquiry purposes; this
includes, of course, obtaining a great deal of information with
regard to social and financial circumstances of families living in
the areas and generally takes up a good deal of time that otherwise
would be spent in the ordinary duties of sanitary inspection.
Banister Street and Nisbet Street housing schemes are ready
as far as plans and general particulars are concerned, and as far
as the particulars of sanitary inspection are required the Public
Health Department has prepared all that lies within the scope of
their duties.
The housing schemes completed by the Borough Council are
as follows :—
Houses already erected :—
79 houses in Casimir, Cleveleys and Gunton Roads;
66 maisonettes in Daubeney Road, Adley Street, Rock Road,
Gilpin Road and Homerton Road;
48 maisonettes in Fletching Road;
1 cottage in Fletching Road;
100 flats in South wold Road;
92 maisonettes in South wold Road and Mount Pleasant Hill;
35 flats in Powell Road.
Conversion :—
58, Kenninghall Road (St. James's Vicarage) converted into four flats.
Further schemes are under consideration at the moment.
