It is not possible to show the attack-rates per 1,000 persons under
15 years of age, as the records do not give the information as to the
housing conditions of the population coming within this age period.
REPORT OF DIPHTHERIA IMMUNISATION CLINIC.
(Dr. F. J. Porter-Smith.)
The work has proceeded very smoothly, and the general atmosphere
of the Clinic has been pleasant and genial.
From the conversation of the mothers, it seems that most of them
have heard of the Clinic through the Health Visitors or Sanitary
Inspectors, and it appears that the London County Council School
authorities could help to make the existence of the Clinic more widely
known if they felt so disposed. This is of considerable importance,
as the children of school age are naturally more exposed to Diphtheria
than those under school age.
Some school children have stated that they lose their attendance
mark by coming to the Clinic. It has recently been arranged for the
older children to attend between 4 and 4.30 p.m., and this has obviated
the difficulty to some extent.
The attendance throughout the year has been very satisfactory,
as the following figures demonstrate:—
Clinic open for .50 sessions.
First attendances of patients 470
Total attendances 2,045
Patients received certificates of immunity 292
Patients who have not completed treatment 45
Patients under treatment at end of year 133
Enteric Fever Group.
Typhoid and Paratyphoid Fever.—During the year under consideration,
11 cases of typhoid fever and 6 cases of Paratyphoid Fever
" B " were notified. This shows an increase of three on the number of
genuine cases notified during 1927. The attack rate was 0.07 per
1,000 inhabitants, compared with 0.09 for England and Wales.
Sixteen cases were removed to hospital.

The table below gives the distribution of the notified cases in the Sub-districts of the Borough:—

Sub-Districts.North.Central.South-west.South-east.
Number of cases of Typhoid Fever and Paratyphoid Fever3536

There were two deaths from typhoid fever in the Borough last
year.
