vision shops where meat is sold from open fronts, and 90 food rooms
in connection with the above premises, where meat is prepared and
cooked.
Food Sampling.—Fifty-three samples were taken under the Food
and Drugs Acts for analysis, and 21 informal samples of food were
purchased or obtained for examination or analysis as to soundness
or adulteration.
Screening of Meat Exposed for Sale.—The screening of meat on
sale at stalls and shops has been on the whole fairly maintained by the
stallholders and shopkeepers, but the stallholders require constant
supervision, especially during the busy periods.
Meat Storage.—The installation of refrigerators is now common,
and most of the larger shops have refrigerators for the storage of
perishable goods.
Unsound food Surrendered and Destroyed:—
Meat 2 cwts. 1 qr. 0 lbs.
Fish 6 cwts. 3 qrs. 0 lbs.
Tinned Foods, etc. 4 tons 2 cwts. 1 qr. 20 lbs.
A part of my time has been occupied in supervision of work at the
Disinfection Station, etc., and special work in the Department at the
request of the Medical Officer of Health.
