REPORT OF FOOD INSPECTOR (Mr. W. PEVERETT).
During the year I have made 1,812 visits of various kinds, these
included 1,157 inspections of butchers' premises, and premises where
meat was sold, stored, or prepared for sale. Thirty-nine Inspections
of meat stallholders, 152 visits to market streets regarding screening
of meat and condition of goods exposed for sale, 90 visits to other
food premises, 19 visits to slaughterhouses, and 278 special inspections.
Food complaints.—Thirty-two complaints as to food sold, or as to
condition of food premises were investigated, and action taken as
required. In addition to verbal warnings and advice given, 48 Notices
were served for contraventions of Meat Regulations. These included
the following:
Insufficient screening of meat 10
Water closet opening into food room 1
Accumulation of refuse 1
Refuse receptacles—defective or insufficient 10
Animals improperly kept 1
Food rooms dirty 15
Water closets out of repair 11
Food room floor and walls defective 6
Improper storage of food 5
Waste pipes improperly discharged 2
Shops dirty 5
Food store not properly constructed 3
Drains defective 6
Other defects 10
There are now on the Register 153 butchers' shops (including 32
Kosher butchers), 85 butchers' stalls, mostly in market streets, 63
butchers' stores used by stallholders for the storage of meat, 40
