Whooping Cough.— The deaths from this cause during the year
numbered 28. This an an increase of 24 upon the number registered
during 1926. These deaths occurred in children under five years of
age. The mortality for Hackney is equal to 0.12 per 1,000 inhabitants,
and that for all London, 0.12 per 1,000 inhabitants. The King's
Home for Nurses attended to six cases and paid 83 visits.
Information was received from the head masters and head
mistresses of elementary schools in Hackney of 659 cases of whooping
cough occurring among their scholars during the year.
CONSTITUTIONAL DISEASES.
For Table of Deaths see pages 126 to 136.
Cancer.— There were 302 deaths during 1927 due to the different
varieties of malignant disease. This is a decrease of 20 on the number
registered during 1926. The annual mortality rate from malignant
disease for last year is therefore 1.34 per 1,000 inhabitants.
