Illegitimate Births and Birth-rate.—The total number of
illegitimate births registered in the Borough during the year 1926
was 446, but of these, the Register-General states that 351
should be transferred to districts outside the Borough, as the
mothers were not Hackney residents, and 21 births which took
place in other districts should be transferred to Hackney. These
corrections having been made, there remain 116 illegitimate
births amongst Hackney residents. This is equivalent to an
illegitimate birth-rate of 29'3 per 1,000 births.
