Bitihs and Birth-rate.—The births registered in the Borough
of Hackney during the year 1926 numbered 4,763, of which 2,383
were males and 2,380 females. The total shows a decrease of
43 compared with the number registered during 1925, but of
these a certain number must be transferred to other districts,
and certain births, which occurred in outlying districts, must be
transferred to Hackney in order to get an accurate birth-rate for
the Borough. The Registrar-General has supplied the number of
these transferable births, viz., 1,175 births to be transferred to
other districts and 361 to Hackney. After these necessary corrections
have been made, the correct total of registered births
amongst Hackney residents is 3,949. From this figure the birth
rate for Hacknev during 1926 has been calculated to be 17.2 per
1,000 of the population. The birth-rate for all London for the
same period is 171 per 1,000 of the population.
Notification of Births Act, 1907.—Under the provisions of
this Act 4,835 notifications of births were received during 1926.
This total includes notifications from medical practitioners, midwives,
parents and others. It also includes still-births. The
total is 72 more than the number registered by the Registrars of
Births.
Still-Births.—Amongst the births notified 123 were still-born.
This is equal to 2.5 per cent, of those notified. A table is
here given showing the number of notifications received, with
other details in connection with the same.
