partment of the Borough Council. During the year the Sanitary
Inspectors reported 33 premises on which sewers were defective
and repairable by the Borough Council. These were referred to
the Borough Engineer for his attention.
Refuse Disposal and Scavenging.—This matter is under the
control of the Borough Engineer. Refuse from private houses is
collected by electric vehicles and destroyed at the Dust Destructor.
The entire system has been altered from horse-drawn vehicles
to electrically-propelled vehicles during the past five years.
During the year 324 complaints were received from the
Borough Engineer regarding houses without dust-bins or with
defective dust-bins. These were dealt with by the service of
240 informal notices and 41 statutory notices.
