Alcoholism.
Alcoholism.—During the year under consideration there were
no deaths from alcoholic poisoning; but 13 deaths registered as
due to cirrhosis of the liver, a condition regarded, as a rule, to
be due to excessive indulgence in alcohol, extending over lengthy
periods.

During 1925, 465 primary notifications of tuberculosis were
received, details of which are given on page 56 of this Report.
Bacteriological examination of sputa from 472 cases was made
by the Council's Bacteriologist during the same period. In 71
of these examinations the specific organism of the disease was
discovered, and in the remainder the result was negative.
The number of deaths from tuberculous disease in Hackney
during 1925, was 224, a decrease of 30 upon the deaths during
1924. These deaths are classified as follows:—
