other. Apart from the penalties in this particular case, the
publicity given to it has had a very salutary effect and to a large
extent has apparently stopped the trade in uncleaned tea sweepings.
This tea contained a large amount of dirt, metal and iron
filings, and was exposed for sale at a low price on a stall in a
market thoroughfare.
One summons was issued for selling unsound bacon and the
Vendor fined £10. One summons was issued for selling rabbits
which were unfit for food, the Vendor in this case being fined £3
and £2 2s. costs.
There are approximately 300 stalls other than meat stalls,
where all kinds of food is sold and attention has been paid to the
quality and soundness of the food thereon.
Stallholders have been warned, where necessary, in regard
to sorting and sale of damaged and unsound food.
