2 milksellers have been removed from the register for noncompliance
with the regulations, and 4 have been warned for
having dirty or unwashed measures in use.
Cow-Houses.—These now number 7, a reduction of 1 since
last year. 89 inspections were made and on each occasion 1
found the premises kept in a satisfactory condition.
Offensive Trades.—There are now 16 dressers of Fur Skins
in the Borough, an increase of 3 since last year. One complaint
was received of a nuisance arising during the removal of the refuse
of the business from one factory; this was remedied by the provision
of further receptacles for the fleshings which enabled them
to be removed in the van without the necessity of emptying their
contents. 48 inspections were made when I found all the premises
were being kept in accordance with the regulations.
.
Slaughterhouses and, Meat Inspection.—416 visits were made
to the 17 slaughterhouses during the year. The new Regulations
that came into force on April 1st, require 3 hours' notice to be
given before slaughtering is commenced. This has been well

carcases have been examined before sale. Previously, I made

now I know where and at what times I can be sure of finding
slaughtering finished or in progress and can examine the carcases
for disease. This has often entailed late visits in the afternoons
and occasionally Saturday evenings and Sunday morning, as there
is no provision in the regulations that slaughtering shall be done
within prescribed hours, and the butcher can and does suit his
own convenience as to when and at what times it shall be done.
Practically the whole of the butchers in the borough, who have
slaughterhouses, kill none but prime cattle, sheep and pigs, therefore
the amount of disease found among them is necessarily
small and confined usually to the organs only. There are only
3 slaughterers of poultry in the Borough and their premises
