Report of the Food Inspector for the Year 1924.
(Mr. A. J. Bobbitt).
Dairies and Milkshops.—1,629 visits were made to these
during the year.
67 new Milksellers have been registered.
5 applications for registration were refused by the Public
Health Committee on the grounds of unsuitability of premises or
the applicants.
The total number of persons registered is now 361.
No notices have been served for repairs or limewashing;
these, where required, have been carried out on verbal instructions
only.
Cow-Houses.—These now number 8, one dairyman not
having applied for a renewal of his licence. 104 inspections were
made during the year, and on each visit I found that the premises
were being kept in accordance with the regulations.
Offensive Trades.—The only offensive business now carried
on in the Borough is that of fur-skin dressing, and 13 of such are
actively engaged. 50 visits were made to these, and it was
necessary to issue 2 summonses against one firm for failing to
carry out the periodical limewashing and the provision of suitable
refuse receptacles, when costs amounting to £5 5s. Od. were
imposed. In all other respects I found the regulations were
being observed.
Slaughterhouses and Meat Inspection.—The licensed
slaughterhouses now number 17, a reduction of 2 since last year.
