(b) Dairies and Milkshops.—During the past year 11 milk
premises were removed from the register, and 15 new milk premises
added, thus making the total on the register at the end of last year
315. The proprietors of milk premises were changed in 47 instances.
Inspector Bobbitt reports that he made 1,593 visits of inspection
to these premises during the year, and discovered dirty utensils
in 13 instances. He also served 5 notices for cleansing and repairs,
which were immediately complied with.
Offensive Trades.—The only offensive trade premises in the
Borough, viz., that of tripe boiler, was visited by the inspector
9 times during the year. He reports that on these occasions he
always found the premises in a satisfactory condition.
Slaughter Houses.—The number of licensed slaughter houses
in the Borough at the end of 1912 remained as at the end of the
previous year, viz., 21. Inspector Bobbitt reports that he made
311 visits of inspection to these during the year, and found them
in a satisfactory condition. During his visits to the slaughter
houses, which were always made on slaughtering days, the Inspector
examined the carcases and organs of 1,572 sheep and lambs,
189 oxen, 8 calves, and 41 pigs, and found the following parts and
organs diseased and had them destroyed, viz.:—
1 carcase of ox with all organs affected with tuberculosis.
12 ox livers affected with distomatosis.
19 sheeps livers affected with distomatosis.
18 sheeps livers affected with parasitic cysts.
16 sheeps lungs affected with parasitic cysts.
2 flanks of beef affected with inflammation.
On September 23rd the Public Health Committee made their
annual visit to the slaughter houses of the Borough. These were
all found in a satisfactory condition, except 1 slaughter house
which was dirty.
