end of the month. The mean was 0.6 deg. above the average ;
on some days the mean temperature was more than 10 deg.
below whilst on other days it was more than 7 deg. in excess
of the average. The temperatures just given are those for
Greenwich, as it would not be fair to compare the observations
taken here with those at Greenwich for past years.

I now give a table of the results of observations taken by me in the Richmond Road.

This table shows that the highest temperature recorded in
Hackney occurred in the month of June, when it reached
85.2 deg., and the next in July, when it was 85.0 deg. against
82.8 deg. in August, which is somewhat unusual. It is also
worthy of note that the highest temperature in January, March
and December was precisely the same, viz., 55.4 deg. The
lowest temperature was by no means low, 23.4 deg., and
occurred in March, which is also unusual, so that the highest
and lowest temperatures for the year happened within 3 months
of one another. This is by no means unusual in the last half
of the year, but is in the first. The means of all the highest
temperatures occurred as usual in August and was equal to
73.1 deg. June coming next. The means of all the lowest
