Of the samples of groceries, the three coffee
extracts examined all contained less caffeine than they
should have done if they had been properly prepared from
coffee.
Of the four samples of peas, I reported three as
adulterated, as they contained copper equal to 1 grain of
metal per pound or upwards, while the other sample also
contained some copper, but not sufficient in my opinion to
justify action.
In addition to the two milks reported as adulterated,
I reported two others as "suspicious," and two more
as "poor in fat."
I am,
Yours faithfully,
WILLIAM R. SMITH, M.D.
Public Analyst.
