SLEEPING ACCOMMODATION ON BOARD SHIP. The following Table gives particulars of the sleeping accommodation in the crew's quarters found on certain vessels inspected by your Officers.

This Table shows that the crew's quarters were occupied by 1,766 seamen, for whom
only 594 bunks were provided, and a few cots and hammocks.
Many of the hammocks were improvised out of gunny bags, the remainder of the
occupants had to sleep on the floor or on their boxes.
