THE STRAND DISTRICT, LONDON.
Influenza.—For the fifth year in succession London
has been visited by this disease, and as in previous
years, it was accompanied by a great increase in the
number of deaths from respiratory diseases It first
began to make an impression upon the death rate about
the middle of February, rapidly rising to a maximum
in the week ending the 9th of March, when 473 deaths
were recorded, thereafter it more slowly declined to
the end of April.
