General and Accident Cases. Cases from this area are admitted
to:—
Carshalton, Beddington and Wallington District (War
Memorial) Hospital.
St. Helier County Hospital, Carshalton.
Croydon General Hospital.
The Wilson Hospital, Mitcham.
MUNICIPAL HOSPITALS.
The Municipal Hospital provided by the Surrey County Council
serving this area is the St. Helier Hospital at Carshalton. Cases are
treated at Municipal Hospitals at Epsom, Kingston and Redhill when
accommodation at St. Helier is unavailable.
Maternity Cases. The Surrey County Council have made provision
at St. Helier County Hospital for the reception of maternity
cases. This matter is dealt with fully under the Maternity and Child
Welfare Section.
An agreement exists between the Council and the Carshalton,
Beddington and Wallington District (War Memorial) Hospital for a
limited number of maternity cases to be admitted upon the recommendation
of the Medical Officer of Health. During the year, however,
no opportunity arose for making use of this facility.
CLEANLINESS.
During 1946 the Corporation brought into use a new Cleansing
Station situated near the Grange Mansion. Facilities tor undressing,
hot bath and washing of the hair, together with adequate drying, are
provided.
A table is appended showing the number of cases treated during
the year. Infestation by head or body lice remains at a very low
level, and the number of cases of scabies treated show a gratifying
decrease.
The general standard of cleanliness throughout the Borough
remains at a reasonably high level, special attention being paid to
this matter by the Health Visitors and Sanitary Inspectors during
their routine visits and in their contact with the public at the Town
Hall:—
