at the St. Helier County Hospital, Carshalton, sessions being held as
follows:—

Thursdays at 1.30 p.m.
Every fourth Thursday in the month, 5.30 p.m.
IMMUNISATION ACAINST DIPHTHERIA.
The immunisation of children against diphtheria was begun in
the Borough in 1937, but an intensive national drive to have all
children below the age of 15 years immunised only began in 1941.
The Borough took its full share in the Government campaign, with
the result that the numbers of children brought to clinics and
immunised in private and elementary schools has greatly increased.
Particular attention has been concentrated on the immunisation of
children attending at Infant Welfare Centres on attaining the age
of one year, and since 1937 the Department has been responsible for
a total of 4,221 infants and school children receiving this protection
against diphtheria. This figure does not include children who are known
to have been immunised by their own doctors or in schools outside
the district.

The following table gives the number of children who were treated during the year and, after necessary corrections, the number of children known to be immunised in both age groups:—

Alum precipitated toxoid (A.P.T.) is provided free from the Government's
Central Laboratories and has been used throughout the year in
our immunisation scheme. No cases of illness have resulted from the
injections and no child has been prevented from following his daily
routine on treatment days.
