Craded Milk.
(1) Tuberculin Tested. The examination of the five samples of
milk sold under this designation was satisfactory, all samples satisfying
the prescribed methylene blue reduction test. In addition, these
samples were examined microscopically for the presence of acid fast
bacilli with negative results.
(2) Pasteurised Milk. All samples of pasteurised milk were submitted
to the phosphatase test to ascertain the efficiency or otherwise
of the pasteurisation process. One sample only of the 99 examined
during the course of the year exceeded the 100,000 bacteria per
millilitre allowed by the Milk (Special Designations) Regulations.
Since August, 1944, when the necessary equipment was obtained,
samples have been submitted, in addition, to the Methylene Blue Test
in accordance with the provisions of the Heat Treated Milk (Prescribed
Tests) Order, 1944. Thirty-six samples were thus submitted
to this double test with satisfactory results.
