NON-NOTIFIABLE DISEASES.
Returns from the local education authority keep the department
informed of the incidence of these diseases in children attending the
elementary schools.
It is gratifying to note that during the war year under review,
there was no prevalence of non-notifiable diseases among school
children. In spite of shelter life, diseases of the skin and respiratory
systems, which might have been expected to be high, were at a low
ebb.
TUBERCULOSIS.
There were 21 new cases notified during the year.

The annual case rate for Pulmonary Tuberculosis per 1,000 of
population for 1940 was 0.73 compared with 0.80 for 1939.
The annual case rate for Non-Pulmonary Tuberculosis per 1,000
of population for 1940 was 0.04 compared with 0.17 for 1939.

It will be seen from the foregoing table that 12 deaths were regis'
tered as due to Tuberculosis, of! which 9 were Pulmonary and 3 NonPulmonary.
