Deaths. The Registrar-General gives the number of deaths registered
as 282, of which 142 were males and 140 were females.
Taking the estimated population figure of 30,070 (a figure supplied
by the Registrar-General specially for the calculation of Death Rates),
the crude death rate for 1939 is 9.38 per thousand, compared with 8.42
for 1938. The corresponding figures for England and Wales for 1939
and 1938 are 12.1 and 11.6 respectively.
The corrected death rate, i.e., the rate which would be arrived at
if the age and sex constitution of the population of Beddington and
Wallington was in the same proportion as the country as a whole, is
9.19.
The Registrar-General's comparability factor for the adjustment
of the death rate of Beddington and Wallingtotn is 0.98.

causes of death of residents in the Borough during 1939, and the next
table the birth rate, general death rate, and the death rate for certain
specified causes for the country as a whole, and for certain groups of
the population, together with figures for notifiable infectious diseases.
