Returns from the local education authority keep the department
informed of the incidence of these diseases in children attending the
elementary schools. From this and other sources (although the information
so obtained may be an under-statement) it will be seen that
the incidence of the following diseases was relatively light during the
year:—
Measles 48
Mumps 11
Chicken-Pox 142
Whooping Cough 97
TUBERCULOSIS.
There were 24 new cases notified during the year.

The annual case rate for Pulmonary Tuberculosis per 1,000 of
population for 1937 was .65 compared with .61 for 1936.
The annual case rate for Non-Pulmonary Tuberculosis per 1,000
of population for 1937 was .13 compared with .20 for 1936.
The Registrar-General returns the number of deaths which
occurred from Tuberculosis in 1937 as 16.
