FOOD AND DRUGS ACT.
To Dr. Loane, Medical Officer of Health for the Whitechapel District.
Sir,
During the year ended 31st December, 1892, 141 Samples
of Food were purchased by me and submitted to the Public
Analyst for analysis, viz., Milk, 37; Bread, 35; Flour, 35;
Sugar, 23 ; Oatmeal, 5 ; Coffee, 5 ; and Butter, 1.
Five of the Milks were adulterated with water to the
extent of 9, 11, 13, 16, and 23 per cent. respectively, and one
sample of Milk was deficient in cream to the extent of 36
per cent.*

* In the first two cases the sellers were cautioned. In the other cases
(street vendors) as false addresses had been given no action could be taken.
