Roding
Valley
Pumping
Station
Following an application from a local firm to discharge certain
chemicals through this pumping station which in turn would have alleviated
some of the pollution problems of the River Roding, and in an
endeavour to ascertain there would be no resultant adverse effects on
the staff employed there, a very intensive study of the possible hazards
was made.
With the co-operation of the Borough Engineer, the Greater London
Council (Scientific Branch and the Department of Public Health Engineering),
H.M. Medical Inspector of Factories and the firm concerned,
Health and Welfare Department representatives under the Deputy Medical
Officer of Health and the Chief Public Health Inspector co-ordinated the
results of the research which included test sampling of the effluent passing
through the pumping station over a considerable period and in the
light of this were unable to elicit any health hazard.
