SANITARY ADMINISTRATION.
ANNUAL REPORT
OF
THE CHIEF SANITARY INSPECTOR
1951
Public Health Department,
Municipal Offices,
New Malden.
To the Mayor, Aldermen and Councillors
of the Borough of Maiden and Coombe,
Ladies and Gentlemen,
I have the honour and pleasure to submit my thirty-second
Annual Report of work done and matters of interest concerning
the Sanitary Department.
As the years go by it becomes increasingly difficult to produce
a report different in character to those that have preceded
it, which will be informative and, at the same time, of interest
both to members of the Council and to ratepayers in general.
The report could be full of statistics with little written matter and,
in this form, produced with little effort. Some statistics, however
dull, are of course essential but they can be mollified by an
accompanying text and, at the risk of being thought loquacious,
I have always endeavoured to keep that in view. Repetition is
sometimes unavoidable but it must be remembered that the
composition of the Council is always changing and if, occasionally,
a member reads something substantially the same as in a
previous report there may many others who will be reading it
for the first time.
The year under review has been uneventful. No departmental
changes occurred and this allowed the work to proceed
smoothly and, at the same time, for certain sections to be brought
up-to-date.
Food matters again occupied a great deal of the inspectors'
time.
