DEATHS.
During the year 404 deaths were registered, a decrease of
48 compared with those recorded in 1947, the rate per 1,000
being 9.0 compared with an average of 10.8 for England and
Wales. The infantile mortality was 25.1 per 1,000 live births, a
low rate, comparing with the figure for 34 for England and
Wales.

For the fourth year in succession there were no deaths from maternal causes.
