During the year 636 live births were registered, a decrease
of 129 on last year's total. The rate per 1,000 population was
14.2 compared with an average for England and Wales of 17.9.
Of the total number 23 or 3.6 per cent. were illegitimate. The
birth rate is much lower than that of last year.
