SANITARY ADMINISTRATION.
ANNUAL REPORT
of
THE SANITARY INSPECTOR
1948
Public Health Department,
Municipal Offices,
New Malden.
To the Mayor, Alderman and Councillors
of the Borough of Maiden and Coombe,
Ladies and Gentlemen,
I have pleasure to submit my twenty-ninth Annual Report
of work done and matters of interest concerning the Sanitary
Department.
The raising of the 'free' limit to £100 has been of great
assistance in obtaining more prompt compliance with notices,
whether informal or abatement and much leeway has been made
up. The separation of war damage repairs, however, as apart
from those of ordinary maintenance has, at times, caused some
delay, owners naturally desiring to carry out both together. In
fact quite often the two have been inseparable and abatement
notices have had to include repairs under both categories. In
those instances where there was failure to obtain early settlement
with the war damage commission delay in the work being put
in hand was a consequence. Generally speaking, however, the
year under review has seen far greater activity in this respert,
certainly since 1938.
For the purpose of abating nuisances or executing repairs
to houses, the following notices were served:—
Preliminary 278
Abatement 190
Informal (dustbin only) 15
Formal (dustbin only) 19
