In order that all patients on the waiting list, numbering
nineteen, should receive some treatment new cases were not
accepted from 1st January. The actual number who received
treatment during the six months was eighty-two and a total of
2,882 treatments were given during that period, the cost to the
Council being £522.
This scheme undoubtedly proved of great benefit to ratepayers
suffering from rheumatic diseases and during the five years
it was in operation nearly five hundred persons affected with this
distressing complaint received free treatment.
WORK OF PUBLIC NURSE.
The following is a record of certain aspects of the work
done by the nurse to the public health department during the
year:—
Home visits in connection with infectious diseases (measles.
whooping cough, etc.) 689
Home visits in connection with rheumatic clinic 32
Attendances at diphtheria immunisation sessions 33
Number of visits for treatment of scabies 213
Number of visits for treatment of head lice 243
Visits in connection with other matters, (home helps, old
people, etc.) 308
