Borough of Malden and Coombe
ANNUAL REPORT
OF
THE MEDICAL OFFICER OF HEALTH
1945
Public Health Department,
Municipal Offices,
New Malden.
July, 1946.
To the Mayor, Aldermen and Councillors of the
Borough of Malden and Coombe.
Ladies and Gentlemen,
I have the honour to submit my Annual Report for the
year 1945, which has been prepared in accordance with Ministry
of Health Circular 28/46.
Vital statistics for the year have been satisfactory on the
whole, and, as a result of more settled conditions, there has
been a considerable increase in the resident population. This
has, of course, tended to aggravate the most pressing problem
of the moment—that of housing.
I should like to record my appreciation of the work of the
sanitary and clerical staff of the department during the year.
The Public Health staff was.strengthened by the appointment
of Mrs. M. Butler as nurse, but otherwise remained unchanged.
The burden of Civil Defence was laid down without reluctance,
although this necessitated parting with the services of Mr. E. C.
Challis, Casualty Staff Officer, to whom I am very grateful for
the sterling work he has put in since 1939.
I am,
Mr. Mayor, Aldermen and Councillors,
Your obedient Servant,
JAMES FANNING,
Medical Officer of Health.
