Trowlock is a picturesque little island with about 30
bungalows, occupied during the summer months only.
Teddington Lock and Weir are too well-known to require
any description; at this point there is a footbridge connecting
the two adjoining Counties (Middlesex and Surrey) and
below this point the Thames is tidal.
The District is divided into four Wards, viz.:—Fulwell,
Upper Teddington, Lower Teddington, and South Teddington.
About 25 acres of Bushy Park come within the
boundary. There is a small public recreation ground overlooking
the river, and in the Fulwell division there is a golf
course of about 190 acres.
There are 9 places of worship in the district—5 Church
of England, 1 Baptist, 1 Wesley an, and 1 Roman Catholic.
There is one Cinema and one Hall for public entertainment.
There is great need for a new Public Hall.
There are two Railway Stations, Teddington and
Fulwell, both on the Southern Railway. From Teddington
there is a double service of trains to Waterloo, one viâ
Richmond and one via Wimbledon; in all 10 trains an hour
all day. Fulwell is on the branch line to Hampton,
Sunbury and Shepperton. There is also a frequent motor
bus service to town.
There are no special industries of any size in the
district. The population mainly consists of middle and
artizan classes in fairly equal proportions.
The National Physical Laboratory is looked upon as
being in Teddington, although most of the buildings are not
in the ratable area.
