Merton and Morden 1938

Erysipelas. Fourteen notifications were received. Seven
of the eases were admitted to hospital and 7 were treated at
home.
The site affected was the face in every instance. There
was one death.
Puerperal Pyrexia. Notifications were received in respect
of 10 cases of Puerperal Pyrexia, giving an incidence
rate of 9.83 per thousand total births.

All these cases, with the exception of one, were Primiparous
women.
Ophthalmia Neonatorum. Nine cases were notified. One
was a baby born in the London area. Of the other 8, one was
a severe infection of both eyes and was admitted to a special
hospital. The remaining 7 were mild cases which responded
to home treatment.
