New Houses
The dwellings completed during the year numbered 114 as follows:—
Private Dwellings 34
Council Dwellings 80
Dwellings in course of erection at 31st December, 1963 were:—

Schemes in course of preparation were as follows:—
Site 1 Culvers Avenue — Redevelopment of site of temporary
bungalows to provide 238 dwellings.
„ 41 The Mount — Probably 15 dwellings.
„ 31 Stanley Road — (Stage III) Probably 9 dwellings.
„ 45 Mill Lane — Probably 6 dwellings.
The Ministry's enquiry into the Council's proposed use of the land
in Wandle Mead for the housing of 74 old people resulted in the Council's
proposals being rejected.
Council's Housing Scheme
The dwellings in the ownership of the Council at the end of the year
were as follows:—
Pre-War Houses 502
Post-War Houses, Flats and Maisonettes 839
Temporary Bungalows 67
Houses taken over under S.D.A.A. and H.A. 25
Houses purchased 31
Accommodation in Parks, Offices, etc. 22
The applications for Council tenancies are divided into three lists
A, B and C. List A comprise those with the highest number of points in
the Points Scheme "who might reasonably anticipate assistance from the
Council in the fore-seeable future." Admission to List "A" is subject to the
family income being below certain limits. List "B" comprise those with
somewhat fewer points "who must not expect an offer of accommodation
to be forthcoming unless a change of circumstances affecting pointing
promotes their application to List "A". List "C" comprise all the remaining
applicants with the lowest points for whom "so far as can be fore-seen the
Council will not be able to provide accommodation within the Urban
District."
At the end of 1963 the "A" List totalled 27, the "B" List 44 and the
"C" List 452. In addition to which there were 165 on the Housing for the
Aged List and 359 applications unclassified since they were of less than three
years duration. One tuberculous family was rehoused.
