Rag Flock and Other Filling Materials Act, 1951
Three premises used for upholstering are registered in accordance
with Section 2 of the Rag Flock and Other Filling Materials Act, 1951.
One sample of new coire fibre was taken and proved to be satisfactory.
The prescribed Analyst is Mr. G. S. Ginger of Westfield House, Henleyon-Thames,
Oxfordshire.
Establishments for Massage and Special Treatment
Six establishments are licensed under Part IV of the Surrey County
Council Act, 1931, 4 for chiropody and 2 for massage etc. Visits of inspection
found that all were being conducted satisfactorily.
National Assistance Acts, 1948—1951
It was not necessary to invoke the power provided by these Acts to
require any person to be removed to a place of care on account of old age
and infirmity and living in insanitary conditions. Nor was it necessary for
the Council to arrange under the provisions of these Acts for the burial
of a person for whom no such arrangements were otherwise being made.
Disposal of the Dead
The Council provides a public mortuary in Mill Lane equipped with
refrigeration storage and full facilities for post mortem examination.
Under financial arrangements with the respective Councils, bodies are received
from Beddington & Wallington and Coulsdon & Purley. The number
of bodies received during 1963 on all of which autopsies were performed
was as follows:—

Interments in the cemetery of the Carshalton, Merton & Morden
Joint Burial Board situate in Lower Morden totalled 379 during the year
and of these 144 were from Carshalton.
At the North-East Surrey Crematorium which adjoins the Joint
Board's burial ground, 1471 cremations took place and of these 105 were
from Carshalton.
