Prevention of Damage by Pests Act, 1949
Six thousand eight hundred and eight visits were made by the Rodent
Operatives concerning 451 properties and 263 rat and mouse infestations
found. Of that number 237 were found in private premises, 22 in business
premises and 4 in Council premises.
The sewers in the district were bait tested during the month of May
and no evidence of rat infestation was found.
Swimming Baths
There are two swimming baths in the district, one maintained by the
Council at the Highfield Hall, the other sited at the Barrow Hedges County
Primary School and used as part of the school activities. Both are fitted
with purification plants using chlorine as the sterilant. Twelve samples of
the bath water from the Highfield Bath and 8 from Barrow Hedges were
all entirely satisfactory.
Offices
Four inspections were made during the year, but no action was necessary.
