Vermin Control
Persons
During the second World War the Council adapted part of the Municipal
Institute in Rochester Road as a cleansing station to deal with
persons and their personal clothing who had become verminous, particularly
as a result of infestation with scabies. With the return of better conditions
following the cessation of hostilities, the number of cases requiring to be
dealt with at the cleansing station rapidly declined and in recent years it
has only been used infrequently. With more effective insecticides, it is now
possible to deal with the cases of minor infestation at home.
Eight persons attended the cleansing station in 1963, all for the
treatment of scabies. Three of these were school children.

During the year ninety-four premises were treated for the destruction of vermin and insect pests as follows:—
