New Houses
During the year 98 new dwellings were completed 71 of which were
private dwellings and 27 Council bungalows and flats for old people.
The following buildings were in course of erection at the end of the
year:—

Council's Housing Scheme
The dwellings in the ownership of the Council at the year end were as
follows:—

The number of requisitioned premises at the 31st December, 1959 was
4 providing accommodation for 8 families. This is 13 less properties under
requisition than at 12 months earlier.
In 1959 the Council re-examined the applications for housing accommodation
which numbered approximately 1,000 and divided them into three
lists 'A', 'B' and 'C\ List 'A' comprise those with the highest number of
points in the Points Scheme "who might reasonably anticipate assistance
from the Council in the forseeable future." Admission to List 'A' is subject
to the family income being below certain limits. List 'B' comprise those
with somewhat fewer points "who must not expect an offer of accommodation
to be forthcoming unless a change of circumstances affecting pointing
promotes their application to List 'A'." List 'C' comprise all the remaining
applicants with the lowest points for whom "so far as can be foreseen the
Council will not be able to provide accommodation within the Urban
District."
At the end of 1959 the 'A' List totalled 80 and the 'B' List 52.
