Employment Agencies
The two employment agencies in the district were visited and found to
be satisfactory. One agency was terminated in April.
Shops Act, 1950
There are 509 shop premises on the register and 2,774 inspections were
made during the year.
Preliminary notices were served with regard to twenty-five infringements
of the statutory requirements, thirteen for failure to exhibit appropriate
notices, five for condition of premises, five for sanitary accommodation
and two for closing hours. Twenty-three notices have been complied
with (including six notices outstanding at 31.12.58.).
Heating Appliances (Fireguards) Regulations, 1953
Twenty-eight inspections were made under the Act. One informal
notice was served and has been complied with.
Merchandise Marks Act, 1926
The Council have continued to execute the provisions of the Orders
and their five Sampling Officers are appointed as authorised officers under
the Act. Much of the work is done amongst the stall-holders in the district.
Pet Animals Act, 1951
Five licences have been granted in respect of premises used as Pet Shops,
all of them dealing mainly with fish and birds.
The premises were inspected and found satisfactory.
