With regard to sewers, two maintenance treatments were carried out, one in May and the other in November. The results are shewn in the following table, together with the three previous years:—

Swimming Baths
The only swimming bath in the district is in the ownership of the
Council. The water is subjected to precipitation, filtration and chlorination.
Testing for adequacy of this purification treatment is not an automatic
procedure and both it and the regulation of the plant is a manual operation
into which human error can creep. Meticulous attention to this work is
called for especially at peak periods in hot weather when the bath is extensively
used. Eight samples were submitted for bacteriological examination
during the year and whilst all were satisfactory to the extent that no organisms
of excretal origin were found, two of the samples taken in July shewed
that the number of organisms surviving the chlorination treatment was
higher than is desirable.
Offices
Eleven inspections of offices were made, but no action was necessary.
