Twenty-four complaints were received and dealt with during the year.
Prevention of Damage by Pests Act, 1949
The work of rodent destruction was continued in accordance with a
scheme agreed with the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food. As
from 1st April, 1959, the Ministry's grant towards the cost of this work
will be withdrawn, but the power of the Minister is retained in directing
the Local Authority as to the manner and extent to which the Local
Authority shall exercise their functions under Part I of the Prevention of
Damage by Pests Act, to keep the district free from rats and mice.
Six thousand nine hundred and seventy-four visits were made by the
Rodent Operatives concerning 904 properties and 315 rat and mouse
infestations found. Of that number 259 were found in private premises,
46 in business permises, 10 in Council premises.
