BIRTHS
The number of live births registered during 1958 was 750 which is 56
more than in the year before. Of these 372 were males and 378 females,
giving a birth rate of 12.4 per thousand population.
The "comparable" birth rate produced by the application of the
Registrar-General's comparability factor of 0.97 to allow for the disparity
in the age and sex constitution of the local population and that of the
country as a whole is 12.0 per thousand population, which compares with
16.4 for England and Wales.
