Drinking Chocolate.
The label described this article as "Hot Drinking Chocolate Creamy as
Milk Chocolate." The Analyst reported that it contained sugar, cocoa,
salt and other flavouring but no milk or milk product. Although the
manufacturers did not accept the contention that the words "Creamy as
Milk Chocolate" were misleading, they agreed to omit the words when
further supplies of the labels were printed.
Egg-
A resident purchased six eggs from a local grocer. He complained that
after cooking they smelt and tasted of disinfectant. A portion of one
cooked egg and its shell were submitted to the Analyst who reported the
eggs had become contaminated with vapour of a phenolic or associated
nature probably as a result of the treatment of the hen house with water
proofing or wood preservative material. The vendor, the wholesalers and
Packing Station were notified.
