informed the Council that—
"the question of the adoption of a Standard for Dried Fruit described
on the packages or otherwise as "cleaned" has now been discussed
with the National Dried Fruit Trade Association and other representatives
of the dried fruit trade, who have taken the matter away for
further consideration, with particular reference to the possibility of:—
(a) omitting the word "cleaned" from the label on the container of the
dried fruit; and
(b) inserting a slip inside the container stating that the fruit has been
cleaned but advising further washing of it by the consumer before
use."
The matter was still under consideration at the end of the year.

Steak and Kidney.
This sample of canned steak and kidney was reported as containing
80% of meat by the Public Analyst, who expressed the view that a reasonable
minimum meat content for such a product is 95 %.
The manufacturers agreed to alter the label to include the words
"with gravy."
Orange Cordial Drink.
This was a portion of an orange drink which a purchaser alleged to be
unfit for human consumption. Analysis shewed that there were no foreign
ingredients or impurities, but that it had deteriorated through prolonged
or poor storage.
