Employment Agencies
There are two employment agencies in the district. Both were visited
and found to be satisfactory.
Shops Act, 1950
There are 518 shop premises on the register and 2,966 inspections
were made during the year.
Preliminary notices were served with regard to nine infringements
of the statutory requirements, six for failure to exhibit appropriate notices,
one for Sunday Trading and two for sanitary accommodation. All but one
notice has been complied with.
Heating Appliances (Fireguards) Regulations, 1953
Thirty-one inspections were made under the Act and several tests made.
Three electric fires were tested and two were found not to comply with
the regulations.
Merchandise Marks Act, 1926
The Council have continued to execute the provisions of the Orders
and their five Sampling Officers are appointed as authorised Officers under
the Act. Much of the work is done amongst the stall-holders in the district.
Pet Animals Act, 1951
An additional licence was granted in respect of Pet Shops bringing the
total to six. All deal mostly in fish and birds. They were inspected and
found to be conducted satisfactorily.
