Nine thousand three hundred and four visits were made by the rodent
operatives concerning 1,426 properties and 308 rat and mouse infestations
were found. Of that number 268 were found in private premises, 34 in
business premises, 6 in Council premises.

Two maintenance treatments were carried out on the sewers, one in May and the other in November. The results are shown in the following table, together with the three previous years :

Swimming Baths
The Council acquired the only swimming bath in the district in 1953.
Since that time considerable works of improvement have been carried out
to the premises and the purification plant. During the year under review
additional w.c. accommodation was provided, a new footbath constructed
and improvements effected to the chlorination plant. The extent of user is
also controlled to prevent overloading of the purification arrangements.
Six samples of bath water were taken during the year and all were satisfactory.
Offices
Seventeen inspections of offices were made but no action was necessary.
