One death only—from poliomyelitis resulted from the notifiable infectious
diseases.
Violent causes accounted for the death of 17 residents. They were as
follows:—

Road Traffic Accidents 2
Accidents in the Home 3
Accidents at Work 1
Drowning 1
Other Accidents 2
Inquests
Inquests were held on 40 persons who died in the district. The following
verdicts were returned:
Accidental Death 17
Suicide 9
Misadventure 9
Natural causes 3
Open Verdict 2
Sixteen of the total were residents of the district. Four were due to
road accidents.
