The following nine samples were found to he adulterated or otherwise
irregular:
Cocoanut Crunch.
This was a toffee crunch incorrectly labelled as cocoanut crunch.
The price was the sam e in either case and in the circumstances a warning
was given.
Milk.
A sample deficient in milk solids other than fat to the extent of 1%.
The freezing test failed to demonstrate the addition of water, and the
vendors were warned.
Table Jelly.
This sample contained 61.9% of sugar as against 63% required by
the Food Standards (Table Jellies) Order, 1949. The manufacturers
disputed the analyst's method of computing the sugar content. This
was referred to the Ministry of Food who upheld the view of the Public
Analyst. The manufacturers were warned that future samples of this
standard would be the subject of prosecution.
