In 66 out of the 79 new eases of overcrowding, families were sharing
accommodation with relatives.
Abatement of the 173 overcrowded premises was effected as follows:

Removal of one or more occupants 77
Of the 123 dwellings remaining overcrowded at the end of the year,
90 arc owned by the London County Council, 11 by the Carshalton
Council and 22 are privately owned.
Slum Clearance and Demolition
After a lapse of more than a decade covering the war and post-war
years the work of clearing unfit dwellings was resumed. Detailed
inspections were made into the condition of a block of 8 tenement
dwellings in Stanley Road with a view to clearance and re-development
under Part III of the Housing Act, 1936.
Rent and Mortgage Interest Restrictions (Amendment) Act, 1933
No action was necessary during the year.
Factories and Workplaces
In the operation of the Factories Act the department work in
co-oparation with H.M. Inspector of Factories.
